Memories of March 2020 are sure to be dominated by the countless ways life has been changed by COVID-19. But today, I thought it might be nice to remember that March is also…Women’s History Month. These two awesome reads by the same writer-illustrator team are available as e-books as of this morning:

Rad Women Worldwide: Artists and Athletes, Pirates and Punks, and other Revolutionaries who Shaped History by Kate Schatz, illustrated by Miriam Klein Stahl

First we’ve got this awesome anthology of women around the world across history who boldly broke the mold and forged paths for future generations. I love the huge span of time this book covers, from Hatshepsut of ancient Egypt to women whose accomplishments are as recent as a few years ago. Miriam Klein Stahl’s illustrations are exploding with energy and are a perfect match for the content of this inspiring book.

Rad Girls Can: Stories of Bold, Brave and Brilliant Young Women

From the same stellar team, this book zooms in on young women, which can be particularly inspiring for young readers who will surely see themselves in at least one of these young ladies’ stories.

The book includes young women readers are likely familiar with like Malala Yousafzai and Anne Frank, but will also introduce them to lesser-known (but no less rad!) girls like diverse literature advocate Marley Diaz and Ugandan chess champ Phiona Mutesi.

If you’re in a baking mood, I suggest trying out one (or all…) of these fantastic Girl Scout cookie copycat recipes compiled by Erin at BrownieBites.net. I will be making my way through them over the course of the next week and am VERY excited. Which do I start with??

The Girl Scouts exist thanks to yet another pioneering woman: Juliette Gordon Low.  Quite unconventional and independent for her time, she thought far beyond her own personal and immediate experience, stating once that “the work of today is the history of tomorrow, and we are its makers.”

Learn more about her by checking out this e-book available through NYPL: First Girl Scout: The Life of Juliette Gordon Low by Ginger Wadsworth.
