Over the course of the past week, I’ve been exploring NYPL’s e-collection mostly through browsing the catalog and filtering for “e-books.” BUT, then I started to poke around in two free NYPL resources which are NOT going to turn up when searching the catalog: Tumblebooks and Bookflix!
Both Tumblebooks and Bookflix provide online read-alouds of all kinds of books for kids, including many popular and classic titles. If you’ve been exploring NYPL’s searchable collection, you’ve probably discovered that not every book is available in e-format. Also, you’ve discovered that e-books in the collection are a finite resource (meaning a “copy” that is checked out by one person cannot be checked out by another until it has been “turned in”).
Tumblebooks and Bookflix are a great alternative because they include some titles which you won’t find in the NYPL catalog and also can be enjoyed by infinite users at the same time!
Below, I’ve highlighted just a few of my personal faves on each of these platforms. But to really make the most of these sites, you’ve just got to get in there and explore…
Here’s just a few of the titles you’ll find on Tumblebooks:
